Don Charles Fehd

Don Charles Fehd was born to Edwin and Evelyn (Schiffer) Fehd on October 10, 1949. He was the second of three brothers, Gary and Larry, who grew up in Evansville, Indiana. After attending Harrison High School in Evansville, Don continued his studies in special education and behavioral psychology earning a Masters Degree at Vanderbilt University's Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. Don worked for the Kansas University Affiliated Facility at the Parsons (Kansas) State Hospital and Training Center conducting training and research with developmentally disabled youth. He continued this work as a consultant while residing in Key West, Florida. Later, moving to Austin, Texas, he worked in sales for Time Warner, a job that allowed him time to participate in rock climbing and travel.
Don moved to Ouray, Colorado in 2002 where he immersed himself in the community and his outdoor passions of climbing and exploring the majestic mountains and countryside. He was a volunteer for the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team, participating in rescue missions and many behind the scenes roles. He was a driver for many years for Colorado West Jeep Tours, which combined his love of nature and the outdoors with his humor and conversational skills, making many friends from across the country.
Don considered his daughter, Elnora (Ellie) Knox Fehd the "Light of his Life." She was born December 7, 1979 in Parsons, Kansas, and now resides in Los Angeles, California. Brian Fehd, Don's nephew and his niece, Laura (Fehd) Ben-Ishai remain a major source of support for Ellie.
Don's passing on September 12, 2022 was a tragic loss to his many friends and his family. There will always be an unfilled void in the lives of those who knew him.
A celebration of Don Fehd's life will be held in Ouray, Colorado on October 15th at the Ouray Convention and Community Center, 2-5pm.
