Donald Robert Frayer, of Ionia, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025 in Kentwood, MI, at the age of 83. Born on July 5, 1941, in Lansing, MI, he was a son to the late Robert and Florence (Baxter) Frayer and was the loving husband of the late Gloria Frayer. Donald's journey through life was marked by a steadfast commitment to education and a profound love for his family. He attended Central Michigan University, where he studied accounting, and later pursued further education in teaching at Michigan State University. His passion for learning and sharing knowledge led him to a fulfilling career as a business and typing teacher at Ionia Public Schools.
After shaping the minds of young students, he went on to serve at the Court of Hearings and Appeals in the Grand Rapids, MI courthouse. Donald's work ethic and dedication also saw him undertake various jobs, always striving to make a meaningful contribution to his community.
Family was the cornerstone of Donald's life. He is survived by his son, Dan (Holly Scott) Frayer, and daughter, Ariane (Tyler) Sarasin. His legacy continues to shine through his grandchildren, Sawyer and Morgan, who will remember their grandfather as a fountain of wisdom and love. Donald is also remembered by his brother, Bill (Trish) Frayer, and brother-in-law, Dan (Bing) Hammond.
Donald's interests were as varied as they were rich. He had an insatiable appetite for learning new things, often found with a book in hand, diving into various subjects that piqued his curiosity. His love for boating allowed him to enjoy the tranquility of the water, while his admiration for classic cars led him to not just admire but also to buy and sell these timeless machines. Donald took immense pride in maintaining his home and yard, ensuring that both were always welcoming and well-kept. An avid lover of good food, Donald believed that home-cooked meals were one of life's greatest joys, a sentiment he shared with his family at every opportunity. He was actively involved in his grandchildren's lives, imparting wisdom and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Donald's presence was characterized by his loving nature and wise counsel. He was a beacon of support and guidance for his family and friends, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
