When I was 11 or twelve years old Don Lind stayed a night at our modest Reno Nevada home. My father organized a LDS youth conference and invited Don to speak to a fairly large group. Don surprisingly agreed and delivered a inspiring presentation. Early the next morning, in the rush to get our guest to the airport Don asked me to get my bike and a length of string which I quickly did. Then there on the sidewalk with the string around a pedal of a bike he demonstrated to a clueless kid the difference between centripetal and certrifugal force. Talk about casting pearls before swine´. That chance encounter launched a lifetime of my passion for physics and science.
I haven´t thought about this moment for many years. Today, arriving home, his name came to me and I searched to see if this man was still on earth.
To Dons family, his legacy lives on through the many people he taught in such an unpretentious and effective way. Truly a man on a mission.

Had the honor of meeting Dr. Lind and other astronauts at a space event in Pasadena, CA. He was very friendly and approachable for greetings and autographs. (Unlike Neil Armstrong who I saw at a Apollo anniversary celebration and sneaked out the back door to avoid meeting us.) What a great, adventurous, exciting long life he was blessed with.
and autographs.

I attended Portland State University back in the late 1990s with his son Dan. I used to stay overnight with Dan at Don's home in Lake Oswego, Oregon when he lived near the temple. He was so unpretentious and he talked about his missions like someone just doing a routine job on earth. Very humble man good memories even 30 years later.

Don was a member of our Ward when he lived in Concord Ca. I remember him as being kind and unpretentious, given his accomplishments and status. I was only a kid ( am 72 now) and held him up as a true hero. After all those years, it is great to read of his long and rewarding life. Could not have happened to a nicer guy. I´d like to think he is now unlocking all the celestial mysteries he explored throughout his life.

Bro. Lind was our home teacher for years when we lived in Smithfield. Our kids loved to listen to his stories and especially loved it when he wore his moonrock tie! He helped our kids with history fair projects and spoke at several school events for the kids. He was a great mentor and friend and will be so very missed!

I have so many, many special memories of Don, Kathleen and his whole wonderful family, starting with his mom and dad. Elizabeth was my beloved 4-H teacher for 12 years. Although Don was out of the home by then, he was always there with us in his adventures. I have many special memories, but here is one that shows how generous he was with his time. I was newly married and was Primary President in Concord California. For summer Primary, the theme was Modern Day Pioneers. I thought wouldn't it be wonderful to have Don talk to the children. Of course this had to be done by cassette tape. His mother cautioned me that he was extremely busy at this time and not to be disappointed if he couldn't do it. I was thrilled, just a short time later to receive a 30 minute cassette talk on being a modern day pioneer directed to this young audience. Later we had the privilege of going to his Challenger Launch. What a day that was. I will write all my memories for this precious family. Prayers are with you as you remember your wonderful legacy at this time.

We started Astro Camp in 1991 and Don agreed to be our first guest speaker at our graduation ceremony. He would speak to our budding young astronauts three more times as well as be present when our mission simulation area was rebranded as the Don L. Lind Mission Training Area. Very quickly he and Kathleen went from becoming Utah's first astronaut and wife to very dear friends. They will both be missed. Now flying high on the wings of angels.

Don's beloved wife Kathleen was a cousin of my mother Catherine Bagley Reese. They had many associations thru ought life. My siblings and our families were privileged to meet and get to know Kathleen and Don when they came to the Bagley Ranch on the West Desert of UT, teaching while speaking at our family reunion. Later my parents and I visited with them in Logan and were blessed by their generous sharing of places to sleep and good food! Never have we known someone who could top their kindness, faith in the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and love for all humans. I feel blessed to have known him.

I met Brother and Sister Lind after he flew on Challenger. Such a wonder couple and Brother Lind was awe-inspiring. He helped my niece come to terms with the tragedy a year after it happened with his book. As for me, he helped me with the idea of taking a Physics class, and becoming familiar and comfortable with many concepts. The children were so blessed with this man in their lives. We all were. i know he is enjoying the reunion with his wife. Carol, I thank you for allowing me to meet your terrific parents.

Don would have walked on the Moon on Apollo 20, had it not been cancelled. Here he is teaching his colleague, Neil Armstrong, how to do work on the Lunar surface.

I've had his wonderful wife Kathleen's book for many years. Dr. Lind was one of the most dedicated astronauts NASA ever had. Fair Winds and Following Seas.
