Don LeRoy Nielsen, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 5, 2025, in Wauconda, IL, at the age of 72. Born on September 19, 1952, in Chicago, IL, Don's life was one of passion, creativity, and an unwavering devotion to his loved ones and faith.
Don was the beloved patriarch of a family that adored him. He is survived by his loving children, Bridget and Skylor, who will forever hold dear the wisdom and kindness he imparted. His grandchildren, Eric, Eliot, Addison, and Jason were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Don's legacy also lives on through his sisters, Connie (and husband Tom), Charon, Diane, Donna, and Debbie, and his stepmother, Marie, as well as the many nieces and nephews who looked up to him. He was preceded in death by his dear son, Donnie; his parents, Donald and Charlotte; his sister, Dale; and his brother, Curt.
An avid fisherman, Don found solace and joy in the tranquility of the waters. He had a passion for bowling, he enjoyed being around his bowling team. His love for cooking was well-known, as he delighted in experimenting with recipes from all over the world, much to the delight of family and friends who were often treated to his delicious creations. Don's faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a regular at church and lived his life as a testament to his beliefs.
Don was also renowned for his remarkable creativity, especially when it came to handcrafting costumes. Each Halloween, his ingenious designs were a source of wonder and excitement, showcasing his artistic flair and attention to detail. Those who knew Don best would describe him as a smart, supportive, and very loving person who would not hesitate to lend a helping hand. His sharp wit and sense of humor were a joy to all, and his ability to make others laugh was one of his most treasured gifts.
Words that best capture the essence of Don are loving, creative, and passionate. He approached every aspect of life with a wholehearted enthusiasm that was infectious. Don's support and love were unwavering, and his ability to inspire and encourage those around him will be deeply missed.
