Obituary published on Legacy.com by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home - Irving on Sep. 5, 2024.
Don H. Stancoff, 86, a resident of
Irving, Texas, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his residence. He was born November 7, 1937, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Don served in the US Navy from 1958-1962 and attended Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life, Anita Louise Jones, on October 14, 1962, in Conway, Arkansas. Don and Anita settled and raised their family in
Irving, Texas. In 1962, they started Don Stancoff Insurance Agency and retired after 55 years in 2017. He lived a full life working and playing hard as a faithful husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. He built two homes and kept their yard beautiful with weekly "family fun" mowing and weed picking, built and repaired his cars, boats and motorcycles. He spent his free time playing golf, fishing, traveling, watching OU football as a loyal Sooner fan and taking family lake trips on Friday and Saturday, returning for church on Sunday. Don and Anita enjoyed life to its fullest by attending and supporting every single game and performance of their kids and grandkids. They were lifetime members of MacArthur Boulevard Church, where he faithfully taught Sunday School and continued to attend and support the church in spreading the beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ. He taught his family to make Jesus the Lord of their lives through how he lived and by teaching John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." His favorite Bible verse was John 14:6 "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He passionately shared the gospel with friends, family and strangers alike. Don was a Christlike, God-loving, humble, honest, strong, hard-working, giving, caring, loving, talented, generous, supportive, down-to-earth, quick-witted, sharp, handsome blue-eyed, detailed, persistent, committed husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. Don lived the last season of his life in full dedication to his wife until she passed in 2019. He met and was loved by new friends and special care givers as he lived two years at Discovery Village of Castle Hills Independent Living. He enjoyed Gunsmoke, live music, dinners and an additional church service on Thursday night at Discovery while he continued to attend MBBC. He fought hard and survived migraines and multiple battles of COVID, pneumonia, and dehydration and ultimately lived 30 years longer than any other Stancoff family member. He moved back to his home in Irving at the end of an incredible battle with kidney failure where he received much support from his loving family, neighbors, members of MBBC, and friends. He took his last breath in his home and entered the gates of Heaven to meet Jesus, his beloved wife Anita and many family and friends in a perfectly healthy body as they enjoyed the "party" that he had been speaking of the previous two weeks.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Ada Scroggs Stancoff, sister, Betty Jean and her two children Mike and Carl Waslin, and his wife of 57 years, Anita Louise Jones Stancoff; he is survived by two children, Kim Stancoff Geddie of Lewisville, Texas, Scott Stancoff and wife Marci Stancoff of Flower Mound, Texas; and four grandchildren, Zach Stancoff, Caleb Geddie, Alexis Sanders and husband Caleb Sanders, and Blake Stancoff.
