Donald Morgan Amery was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many in his community of Roads, Missouri. Born on February 6, 1927, in Low Gap, Missouri, to parents Marley and Clastine (Evans) Amery, Donald passed away peacefully with his wife and son by his side, on June 30, 2023, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond, Missouri. He was 96 years old.
Donald graduated from Stet High School in 1944 and shortly after, on Christmas Eve, he married his lifelong partner, Pauline Esther Miller, at his family home. A hardworking and dedicated man, Donald worked as a row crop farmer, and raised cattle and hogs. He also co-owned and managed Stet Feed Supply for thirty-five years.
In 1951, Donald and his family moved to Roads, a town that was once called Ameryville. Here, they lived in his family home built in 1882, a testament to their deep roots and commitment to their community. Donald was a pillar of his community, serving as a deacon at the Bethany Church of the Brethren, a church his family had long been members and founders of.
Donald was known for his storytelling, often sharing tales filled with laughter and joy. His infectious laughter was a staple in his narratives, often starting to laugh in the middle of his stories. He was a father figure to many, teaching others about farming and instilling strong ethical and moral values. His love for children was evident in his interactions and his commitment to being a positive role model.
He was an award-winning farmer, taking first place in the 100 bushel Corn Club Contest in the 1950s and receiving a first-place award in the Avid Soil Conservationist Contest. For 40 years, he looked forward to calling in the rain report to KMZU Radio. His love for his community was evident in his work and dedication to the land.
He was a man who never knew a stranger and was always welcoming and kind-hearted. His huge heart and loving nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his wife Pauline of the home; one son, John Lee Amery and fiance,Terri Rocke of Roads, Missouri; one granddaughter, Molly Bendon (Mark) of London, England; one nephew, Jimmy Dale Amery and family; and one niece, Brenda (Amery) Hisle and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marley and Clastine Amery; two daughters, Beth Ann Amery in 1959, and Donna Sue (Amery) Gray in 2012; and his brother, Dale Amery; and sister-in-law, Velma Amery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 North 65 Highway, Carrollton, Missouri.
Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 (noon) with Jason Frazer officiating the service.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, Missouri.
