Donald 'Bill' Baker Obituary Donald Raymond Baker, better known as "Bill," passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Weirton Medical Center due to a sudden illness at the age of 95.
Born on December 21, 1929, in Middlebourne, WV, the proud son of Fred Conaway Baker and Etta Lena (Hamilton) of Sancho Creek near Middlebourne, WV.
When Bills father went to serve in World War II, Bill, at the age of thirteen, took over the responsibility of the family farm. He proudly harnessed the team of horses and maintained all the farm chores until his fathers return!
At sixteen, Bill went up North to pursue public work. He took residence in a boarding house in Weirton while looking to find employment. His only qualification for work was at the local brick yard, being that his hands were capable of handling two bricks at a time. Soon after that, he was employed at the Weirton Steel Corporation, where he dedicated 33 years of service as a foreman until his retirement at the age of 52.
Bill married Delores Tustin on December 6, 1950. They had two sons, James Lee Baker and Harold Lee Baker. Bill and Delores made their home in Weirton, where they became active members of Pleasant Valley Methodist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Delores, and his son Harold. He leaves behind his son, James (Joan) of Follansbee, WV.; his two grandchildren, Erika (Fianc Chris Scisciani) of Streetsboro, Ohio and Justin (fianc Megan Viltro) of Follansbee, WV. and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Gia Baker; his loving sister, Patsy Fletcher of Middlebourne, WV.; niece, Nancy Kester and familys; nephew Le Moyne Fletcher and family.
A private inurnment will be conducted at Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
