Donald Begin age 100, passed away on January 10, 2026 at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco, Maine. He was the son of Emile Begin and Alda Lebel Begin. He was predeceased by his parents, his two sisters, Marie Laure Dallaire & Irene Mondor and his wife of 68 years, Lorraine Lizotte Begin.
Donald was born in Westbrook, Maine and lived in Westbrook for most of his life. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Coast Guard and was able to recount the day the war ended.
Donald was a hardworking man sacrificing his time for the sake of his family, relatives, and friends. His primary career was his employment at SD Warren Co. from 1948 till his retirement in 1987 where he utilized his state engineer's license and inventive skills working with boilers and turbines. Donald was a perfectionist and talented in an array of disciplines such as electrical work, plumbing, and painting. He and his business partner Ben Hebert had a painting business for many years.
As a young man, Donald played hockey and baseball. Later he enjoyed playing golf. He was nicknamed "The Beef" by his golf league teammates for his powerful drives. When he was no longer able to actively participate, as a fan, Donald enjoyed watching Red Sox games and his favorite game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Donald's most important quality was his love and dedication to his wife, Lorraine, who he cared for, for many years as she suffered with Alzheimer's, his daughter Diane Spofford who he taught and prepared for adulthood, gave up his car for her to travel to her first job and set on the path to independence, his granddaughter, Prudence who was beloved and gave him many special memories to recount throughout his life as well as installing a pool and naming it after. He will never be forgotten and will remain a beloved father and grandfather for whom we couldn't be more grateful.
At his request, a private burial will be scheduled at a later date.
