Donald L. Bird Sr., 90, of Houston, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in his home. He was born May 6, 1934, in Houston, a son of the late William John and Florence Ruth Alderson Bird. Donald attended Chartiers High School. Mr. Bird had worked for the Pittsburgh-WV Railroad, Pittsburgh Universal Cyclops, and was a furnace operator for Washington Steel in the Houston Plant. He was a member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg, the American Legion Post 902 in Houston, and the Houston Independent Club. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the birds and deer out his window, watching boxing and Steeler games, and playing with his dog and best friend, Mini. His wife of 73 years, Elsie Ceresa, survives. Also surviving are: two children, Donna Bird-Casper (the late Joe Casper) of Houston and Daniel Bird (Denise) of Washington; five grandchildren, John "JD" Bird (Carie), Donald Bird III (Angela), Daniel Bird Jr., Deanna Bird and Delaney Bird; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Isabella and Sophia Bird; two sisters, Gloria Bird and Florence Wilson of San Antonio, TX; a brother, Ralph Bird of Washington and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are: a son, Donald L. Bird Jr.; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Jim Bird; and a sister, Joyce "Chee Chee" Alberta. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM Saturday, May 3, 2025, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. Interment is private. Memorial donations can be made to the Washington Area Humane Society, www.washingtonpashelter.org, PO Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
