Donald Bitterman died at age 91 on Wednesday November 22, 2023 at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday, November 29 at Hope Lutheran Church in Delmont. His funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, rural Delmont.

Donald Emanuel Bitterman was born on April 12, 1932 to Emanuel and Martha (Ruff) Bitterman of rural Delmont, SD in the Mitchell hospital. He was confirmed and baptized in the Hope Lutheran Church of Delmont.

Donald was married to Clara Berndt on November 6, 1955 in Delmont Hope Lutheran Church.

He was a lifetime member of Hope Lutheran Church and served in many offices. He was on the Delmont township board for many years and a member of the Twin Rivers Old Iron Association. He enjoyed farming, cats, and working on his antique tractors.

He is survived by two sons, Steve (Steph) Bitterman of Huron and Ron (Kristi) Bitterman of Mitchell; his brother, Dale (Terri) Bitterman of Parkston; two sisters-in-law, Eileen (Delbert) Bitterman of Delmont and Eunice (Norman) Berndt of Sioux Falls; three granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter and six step-great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by wife, Clara Bitterman; parents, Emanuel and Martha Bitterman; sister in infancy, Martha Edna Bitterman; brother, Delbert Bitterman brothers-in-law, Norman Berndt and Wilfred Schempp and sister-in-law, Lorraine Schempp.
