Donald James Buffey, a distinguished technology manager with a storied career at AT&T which spanned 31 years, passed away on November 7, 2025, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. He was born on October 13, 1942, in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Donald earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, graduating in the Class of 1964. His education laid a solid foundation for his successful career, during which he made significant contributions to the field of telecommunications.
A devoted husband and father, Donald is survived by his loving wife, Jeannine Stafford Buffey. He cherished his role as a father to three daughters: Chris Foster (Frank) of Summerfield, NC; Cindy Daniel (Scott) of Lawrenceville, GA; and Meg Pearson of High Point, NC. He also took great joy in his role as a grandfather to nine grandchildren: Jacob Foster, Alec Foster, Christian Daniel (Lina), Jared Daniel, Elijah Daniel, Erika Daniel, Emery Daniel, Coty Pearson, and Austin Pearson. His family continued to grow, and he was a proud great-grandfather to Emma Pearson, Brielle Foster, and Brysen Foster.
Donald was an active member of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill, NC, where he found community and fellowship. His interests included avid gardening and saltwater fishing, pursuits that brought him peace and fulfillment in his leisure time.
He was preceded in death by his father, James William Buffey, Jr., his mother, Dorothy Anne (Carroll) Buffey and his first wife, Erika Buffey.
Donald will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his contributions to his profession, and his passion for the activities he loved. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
