Donald Canty

Donald Joseph Canty, to most, known as "Don", to his caregivers, he was lovingly known as "Don-Don". Our father was a very interesting man. In his 93 years of life, some of his more notable accomplishments/characteristics were: He was incredibly generous He was a funny guy He was a reluctant member of the armed forces He became a "professor emeritus" at Bronx Community College (probably to shut him up in some way) He built a TV studio He LOVED his opera He was an Apple aficionado He loved listening to and conducting to all classical music He had been a speech teacher and donated heavily to "Smile Train" (affordable cleft palate/lip repair and therapy) Dad loved basset hounds, but the true dog love in his life for the past many years is Penny, Andrea's dog who would go over and watch TV with Dad every day, even following him to hospice. She'd hop right into bed with/on him. He loved to travel He enjoyed a glass of chardonnay or a martini, every now and then, and then some more He was a purveyor of wildly questionable tales. Most of which we think were true.
Devoted husband to Evelyn Canty until her passing in 2015. Survived by his daughters, Andrea and Gillian. son-in-law, David Eng, his grandchildren Olive and Kaeden Eng-Canty, his incredible caregiver team of Marcia, Tamara and Tami and Penny, his favorite.
