Donald Lee "Don" Carroll Jr.

Donald Lee Carroll, Jr. 71 of Rocky Point, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 21, 2025. He was born July 6, 1953, in Wilmington, NC to the late Donald Lee Carroll Sr. and Alice Byrd Carroll. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Tommy Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Retha Baker Carroll of Rocky Point, son Donald Lee Carroll III of Leland NC, (Gina), daughters Robin Spaulding of Delco, NC, Scarlett Nichols of Rocky Point, NC,(Jason), and Crystal Baker of Shallotte, NC, two sisters Patricia Ange and Diane Blanton, both of Rocky Point NC, along with six Grandchildren; Dylan, Hailey, Jada, Greyson, Piper, Hawke and great grandchild Roan. Don also known as "Papa" to the grandchildren was a loving grandfather, husband, and dad.
Don was a 1971 graduate of John T. Hoggard High School and a longtime employee of E.I. DuPont at their Cape Fear Plant, where he retired after 30 years of loyal service. He later worked for the City of Wilmington's traffic division before retiring from the workforce in 2018.
Don enjoyed fishing, drag racing, Mopar cars, and eating oysters. Some of his most fulfilling moments were spent with his family on vacation in the Tennessee Mountains. Don was also very well known for his barbecue which he cooked at family gatherings and celebrations. He loved watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and the Rifleman. More than anything else Don loved the Lord and was ready to see him when he went to be with him on February 21st.
Don, "Papa" you will be dearly missed. We love you!
A Memorial Service honoring Don's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00am at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel with Pastor Billy Fowler of Olivet Baptist Church to officiate.
