Donald F. Colpaert, age 85, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania.
Don was born April 2, 1938 in Monroe; he was the son of Frederick and Mary (Harman) Colpaert. He married Carol J. Weier February 16, 1957 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, sadly she preceded him in death November 22, 2013.
He was a 1956 graduate of Monroe High School. He was a member of St. Michael Church, where he had served as an usher, and former member Knights of Columbus Council 1266.
Don worked for many years as a carpenter and in his later years as a bus driver for Monroe Public Schools until his retirement in 2013.
Don was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards and softball.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lynette D. (Steven) Oerther of Sioux Falls, SD and Luann Colpaert of Monroe; two brothers, Ronald M. (Barbara) Colpaert and Terry Colpaert both of Monroe, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Larry D. Colpaert and a sister, Ruthann Patton.
In accordance with Don's wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a committal service Friday, August 18, 2023 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, 909 N. Monroe St., Monroe with Rev. Kishore Battu, pastor of St. Michael Church will officiate. Bacarella Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions in Don's memory are suggested to Diabetes Youth Services, Autism Society of Northwest Ohio or Ebeid Hospice.
