Donald L. "Don" Combs, age 92, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Baptist Health Louisville.
Don was born in Louisville to the late Dixie and Loretta Combs and was a graduate of Saint Boniface Parochial School and DuPont Manual High School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and after returning, attended Bellarmine College.
He was retired from Fischer Packing Company and a long-time member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church. He was also the Scoutmaster at St. Pius X (where he received the BSA President's Award), was a member of the Louisville Area Woodworkers, and loved donating his time and talent to Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle "Mickey" Combs Lynch; three brothers, Ken, David, and Tom Combs; and two sisters, Dolores York and Shirley Ann Combs.
Don is survived by his wife of 72 years, Elfie Crafton Combs; his children, Mike Combs (Cassie), Debby Weining (Chuck), Paula Watts, and Kevin Combs; his siblings, Norma Combs, John Combs (Kaye), Jim Combs (Mary Jo), and Stanley Combs (Carolyn); a handful of nieces and nephews, many of whom were their godchildren; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3539 Goldsmith Lane, with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m.- 8;00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
