Donald Ray Curnutt, age 82, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Arbor Trace surrounded by his loving family on January 26, 2026.

He was born June 14, 1943, to Lillian Rhea Lennis Curnutt and Gerald Curnutt in Noblesville, IN. Don was a graduate of Walnut Grove School in 1961. In earlier years, Don lived in Omega and Lapel, IN, spending his adult life in Richmond. He was a machinist with NATCO for 21 years, delivered buses across the country and worked with the Richmond Community Schools. Don enjoyed classic and antique cars and was an avid sports fan, especially high school and college basketball. He was a true IU Hoosier fan. His greatest joy in life were his grandchildren. Don was a member of First Baptist Church.

Don will be loved and missed by his three daughters, Jama Brown (Bryan), Andrea Dudas and Elise Hansel; grandchildren, Madison (Bryanna) Sheppard, Hayden Brown, Maggie Thacker (Colten), Grace Dudas (Isaiah Neal) and Olivia Dudas. Don is also survived by brother, Royce Busby; cousin, Mike (Brenda) Lennis; sister-in-law, Ann Retz; brother-in-law, Jeff (Joni) Hamilton; and special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Melanie Curnutt; parents; bonus

mother, Maxine Haas Curnutt; paternal grandmother, Frona Curnutt; paternal grandfather, Raymond; maternal grandmother, Lillian Lennis and maternal grandfather, Daniel; sister, Arlene Anderson; brother, Fred Busby (Lindy); son-in-law, Lewis Hansel; father-in-law, James Hamilton; mother-in-law, Harriett Hamilton; sister-in-law, Julie Busby; brother-in-law, Keith Retz; and special friends, Ronald Carson and Randy Long.

Visitation for Donald Ray Curnutt will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Mark Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to The Melanie Curnutt Scholarship Fund c/o Richmond High School, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
