Donald Cutone Obituary

Donald B. Cutone, D.D.S., 58, of Westborough, and Falmouth, MA., died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA., after many years of illness which never dimmed his spirit.

Born in Marlborough, MA., he was the son of Elizabeth ( DiRado) Cutone, of Marlborough, and the late Benedetto Cutone, and the husband of Ellen ( Scott) Cutone, of Westborough, to whom he had been married for the past 32 years.

Dr. Cutone was a 1962 graduate of Marian High School Framingham, MA., and Assumption College, Worcester, MA., where in 1967, he earned a B.S. Degree in Natural Sciences. Following his graduation in 1971 from Georgetown University School of Dental Medicine, Washington, D.C., he began private practice in General Dentistry, in Westborough, MA. He also received a Certificate of Advanced Study in Endodontics, from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA.

Throughout his professional career, he was named a Research Fellow in Oral Pathology, by the National Institute of Health, Washington, D.C., was presented with the Alpha Omega award for research, by the Radium Dial Painters of Northern N.J., received a Clerkship in Pediatric Oral Oncology, from Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, N.Y., and was a ,member of OKU Dental Honor Fraternity.

While maintaining a private practice, he also served as a Clinical Instructor of Operative Dentistry, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and visiting lecturer at Harvard as well as the London Hospital School of Dentistry.

He volunteered his talents at the Dimmock Community Health Center, Boston, as well as the Childs Identification Program, and for the Westborough Public School System, Education and Health Fairs.

He was a member of the American Dental Assoc., the Massachusetts Dental Society, the Worcester District Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Harvard Odontological Society.

Since 1975, he has been an active member of the Westborough community, by serving on the advisory board, of Assabet Vocational School, Dental Assisting Program, the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, Assabet Unit, as well as the United Fund, of Westborough, the Westborough Historical Commission, Friends of the Nathan Fisher House, serving as president from 1985-1987. Since 1983 he has been a member and Chairman of the Westborough Board of Health, and was currently on the Board of Cooperators for the Westborough Bank.

He was a member of St. Luke's Parish, Westborough, and spent his leisure time at photography,sailing, bicycling, traveling, and especially in his garden. In 1995 he received the Award for Excellence from the Falmouth Garden Club, of which he was most proud.

Besides his wife and his mother, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Jennifer Cutone, of Framingham, his son Jake Cutone, of Westborough, his daughter and son-in-law, Alycia and Michael Markowski, of Hopkinton, his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Patricia Cutone, of Marlborough and James and Lorraine Cutone, of Cataumet, his sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Don Karlsonn, of West Boylston, and his mother-in-law, Barbara Scott, of Marlborough, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Assumption College, Salisbury St., Worcester, MA.

Burial will be private.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2003 from 2-6 p.m. in the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA.
