Donald R Dockery

Donald R. Dockery, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Born on May 17, 1954, in the Oak Ridge community of Butler County, he was a beacon of love and generosity throughout his 69 years of life.
Donald was blessed with a beautiful family, including his devoted wife of 49 years, Delores Embry Dockery, whom he married on October 5, 1974. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Donnie Dockery (Tammy) of Morgantown, KY, and Ashley Dockery Johnson (Travis) of Morgantown, KY. He was a doting grandfather to four grandchildren, Katie Dockery (Justin Barks) of Morgantown, KY, Jordan Gregory (Kaleb) of Hartford, KY, and Paisley and Deacon Johnson of Morgantown, KY. His joy was further multiplied with the presence of his great-grandchildren, Josie and Jack Barks, and the anticipation of Katie's new baby, expected in October. Donald was one of several siblings and is survived by Olden Dockery (Margie), Oveda Pharris, Rolen Dockery, Stanford Wayne Dockery (Tina), Ronnie Dockery (Terri), and Lisa Bratcher, all of Morgantown, KY, and Loreda Elliot of Louisville, KY. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Arnold Wray of Shepherdsville, KY, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a legion of friends who will miss him dearly.
Predeceased by his parents, Arbie and Lectie Mae Swift Dockery, and his siblings Sadie Hall, Ava Allen, Vadie Cook, Dean Wray, and Conley Dockery, Donald's legacy is one of love and family, a testament to the life he built and the bonds he nurtured.
A proud graduate of Butler County High School, Donald's work ethic was evident through his various employments. He was a valued employee at Green Coal Company, Kellwood Co., and ultimately retired as a Furnace Operator from IMCO. His skills as a Drywall Hanger were also widely respected in the community. A man of faith, he attended Zion Harmony General Baptist Church, where he found spiritual solace and a sense of community. Donald's interests were as rich and varied as his life. He treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His passion for classic cars was more than a hobby; it was a way to connect with fellow enthusiasts, as he enjoyed attending car shows and admiring the craftsmanship of vintage automobiles. The Smokey Mountains held a special place in his heart, as he loved visiting and taking in the serene beauty of nature. Neighbors often found him enjoying what he referred to as "porch sittin'," where he would share stories, laughter, and wisdom with those around him. Donald R. Dockery's life was a journey marked by kindness, dedication to his loved ones, and a spirit of giving that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the countless memories and the enduring love he leaves behind. His story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life well-lived, a life that will continue to be honored and remembered by all.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Harmony General Baptist Church Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 12:00pm with Bro. Calvin Dockery officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Harmony Cemetery where Brad Pharris, Lucas Bratcher, William Cook, Mark Dockery, Joey Dockery and Johnny Pharris will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers Teddy Burden and Reedy Thompson. Visitation will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 8:00pm and Saturday 9:00am until funeral time at 12:00pm at Zion Harmony General Baptist Church.
