Don Elbaum, age 94, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, following a 3-month illness.
He was born July 16, 1931, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Max Elbaum and Sally Greenstein Elbaum.
The Elbaums relocated to Erie when Don was a boy. Don is an internationally respected Boxing Promoter and Matchmaker, as well as a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He began his boxing journey as a young teenager to overcome the results of rheumatic fever. His career led him to international fame. As he promoted the likes of World Champions; Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Aaron Pryor and Simon Brown amongst others. He also promoted multiple generations of Erie boxing, including the Bizzarro family. He promoted or was involved with events across the US, as well as every continent except Antarctica. As the leader of one of history’s most successful weekly boxing series, Don led Atlantic City, NJ, to become boxings most prestigious location during its heydays of the 1980’s.
All this and so much more will be brought to life in an in depth look into the amazingly colorful Life Of Don Elbaum, in a book coming later this year, by author Joe Botti.
He is survived by sons, Kipp Elbaum of New York City and Lance Elbaum of Erie, PA; granddaughter, Alyssa Whoaa of Chicago, IL; grandsons, Dakota Elbaum of Minneapolis, MN and Christian Marasco of Atlanta, GA and cousins, Cheri Greenstein of Mayville, NY, Nancy Gabor of New York City and Joel Greenstein of Daytona Beach, FL.
Friends and family are invited to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W 10th Street, Erie, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service and burial will be held on Wednesday, August 6, at 11:00 a.m. in Temple Anshe Hesed Cemetery located at 624 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16508.
