Donald “Don” J. Neal, 90 of Philo, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at Genesis Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on August 21, 1935, to the late David James and Eva (Mae) Kirkbride in Stark County.
He was a very active member of the Philo Lutheran Church where he served as an usher every Sunday, collected the offering, assisted with communion, posted the hymns and opened the church for Sunday and other functions.
Don graduated from Philo High School in 1954 and married Jean Carol (Pletcher) Neal in 1956. Before working, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as an infantryman. After his military service, Don worked for and retired from the Ohio Ferro Alloy after 30 years. He loved to watch TV, especially the Western Channel, and helped his wife Jean on the farm. He enjoyed going to watch movies with his son Kevin and taking boat rides with his daughter, Krista, on Buckeye Lake. Don and Jean spent many enjoyable hours horseback trail riding with their children and friends. They also visited Amish country several times a year. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean C. Neal, whom he married on November 10, 1956; his son, Kevin J. (Marta Gray) Neal of Philo; as well as his daughter, Krista C. Neal of Buckeye Lake.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Duane Neal; as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Don’s honor can be sent to the Philo Lutheran Church, at 568 Main Street, Philo, OH 43771.
In keeping with his wishes, Don will be privately laid to rest at Duncan Falls Cemetery.
