Donald G. Dufault, a cherished patriarch and esteemed member of the community, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 90 in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. Born in Winchendon, Massachusetts, on October 20, 1934, Donald's life was a testament to his enduring kindness, thoughtfulness, and deep faith.
After graduating from Murdock High School in 1950, Donald pursued a career in mortuary science, demonstrating early on his commitment to serving others. He graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in 1960 and went on to become a dedicated Funeral Director and Embalmer. For over 65 years, he provided comfort and care to countless families at the former Bosk Funeral Home in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. His professional involvement extended to leadership roles, where he served as Past President of the Fitchburg Rotary Club and was an active member of the Past Presidents Club-Fitchburg Rotary, St. Joseph Church in Fitchburg, the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), and the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association (MFDA).
Donald was a US Army - Korean War Veteran, serving from 1952 ~ 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantrymens Badge, Korean Service Medal W/1 Bz Service Star, and Commendation Ribbon w/Metal Pendant.
Donald's life was filled with love and joy from his family. He leaves behind a legacy through his six children: Michael Dufault of Ashburnham, MA; Donald G. Dufault II of Rhode Island; Christopher Dufault of Florida; Brian Dufault of Lunenburg, MA; Lorene White of Fitchburg, MA; and Melissa Lugo of Florida. His brother Normand Dufault of Gardner, MA, also survives him. Donald's life was further enriched by his 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and who will miss him dearly.
The Dufault family matriarch, his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia (Dorr) Dufault, predeceased him in 2020. His son Philip Dufault also preceded him in death in 2020. The love and lessons he shared with his family will continue to resonate through generations.
Donald's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his personal and professional endeavors. He was a man of great compassion and generosity, always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to those in need. His interests outside of work revealed a man who embraced life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, a pastime that brought him a sense of freedom and adventure. Mornings were often spent in the company of family and friends, savoring a cup of coffee and engaging in lively conversation. Dining out with loved ones was another of his favorite activities, a time for sharing stories and creating memories.
Donald G. Dufault's legacy is one of unwavering commitment to his family, his faith, and his community. He was a man who lived his values and inspired others to do the same. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and faith-filled spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we take solace in the knowledge that his impact will be felt for many years to come.
