Donald Eccleston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Apr. 27, 2023.
Donald (Mick) Eccleston, age 71, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 23, 2023, after a long, hard fought battle with Cancer.
Mick served proudly in the United States Army, followed by 26 years of service with the Philadelphia Police Force, retiring from the 7th Police District.
Mick is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (nee Brown).
He was a great father and a loving provider to his four children, Donald (Katherine), Kathryn (Dan) Burch, Erin and Heather (Gregg) Andert. Mick was additionally blessed with the title of Pop Pop after the birth of his 6 grandchildren, Kayleigh, Katherine, Lily, Trinity, Maya and Timothy and was chosen as Godfather to Matthew, his nephew.
Mick was the second oldest of eleven, the beloved son of the late John and Kathleen Eccleston. Loving brother to John (Helen), Rick (Pat), Dennis (Barb), Kevin, Maureen (Bob) Allison, Scott (Lisa), Colleen (Vince) Bruno and Jerry (Jen). Predeceased by Kathleen and James. He was also survived by his sisters- in- law, Diane (George) Coyle and Bettyanne (Walt) Boller, He was a pretty cool Uncle to his nieces and nephews and shared his love of camping, fishing and poker with them.
Mick made plenty of friends over the years, but the friendship and bond he had, not only with his Police partner but also his Pinochle partner, Jack Sweeney, is a friendship he truly cherished. His love for the game created two additional lifelong friendships with their opponents and fellow officers, Jeff Murphy and Joe Nadolski. The four of them playing cards monthly for 20 plus years was something Mick never forgot.
Mick had the biggest smile and his love and generosity were beyond measure.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Mick was a laid back type of guy who loved all genres of music, especially being a Parrot head. He loved life. His jeans, moccasins and hats were who he was and requested that we celebrate him that way.
Family and friends are invited to Mick's Life Celebration, Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA, 19154, from 1:00PM-3:00PM, and to participate in his Funeral Service at 3:00pm. Interment private.
