KNOX – Donald Carl Eichelberg, age 85, of Knox, IN passed away January 23, 2024 amongst family in the comfort of his home.
Donald was born on Friday March 4, 1938 in LaPorte, IN to Ernst and Linda Stein, who have preceded him in death. In 1947 he was adopted by Carl and Virginia Eichelberg (Ryden), who have also preceded him in death. On September 5, 1970 he married Shirley (Arnett) Eichelberg who resides in Knox, IN.
Donald is also survived by his children: Kenny (Jackie) Montgomery and Kimberly Eichelberg; Grandchildren: Brandon (Samantha) Montgomery, T.J. Salyers, and Joshua Salyers; Great-grandchildren: Brandon Scott, Ethan, & Tanner Montgomery and Braylon Salyers; Twin sister: Donna H. Eichelberg, step-brother: Warren (Marti) Eikelberg; Step-sisters: Bonnie (Dick, deceased) Hagenow, Ruby (Ralph, deceased) Peterson, Emma Jean (Mike) Downs. He is preceded in death by his brother Conlin (Maggie) Eichelberg, step-sister Carol Smith and stepmother: Lucille (Jim, deceased) Daly.
Donald graduated from Westville High School Class of 1956 where he participated in varsity basketball and track. He later served in the United States Army National Guard while employed at Inland Steel. Don was an electrician at American Home Foods in LaPorte, IN for many years and later retired from Dean Foods in Plymouth, IN. In his retirement, he volunteered many hours sharing his carpentry skills for his church. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Knox, IN.
Private Viewing and Funeral Services will be held at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel with burial at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, Knox.
