In Loving Memory of Donald Richard Eugenio (October 21st, 1936 - December 17th, 2025)

Lifelong Grosse Pointe resident, Donald Richard Eugenio passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 17th surrounded by loved ones at his home.

Donald was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, loyal friend, businessman, golfer, squash champion, and mentor to all that knew him.

He was born in 1936 to Zellinda and Anthony Eugenio. He grew up in Grosse Pointe with brothers, Roy and Roland, and sister, Linda. Constantly supported by a tight knit family, Donald developed a life long passion for athletics. He attended and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School class of 1958 where he was inducted in the Grosse Pointe South Football Hall of Fame in 2025.

Donald attended Hillsdale College where he earned his bachelor's degree in business and continued his athletic career.

Donald was a proud family business co-owner of Eugenio Painting company where he enjoyed a long career and retired in his early 80's! Quoted in the Detroit Free Press, Donald and his nephew, Michael, said, "We're keeping it in the family," when asked about the legacy of the company started by Donald's father, Anthony. In 1964, Donald married Leona Marie Furnari and had three wonderful children that were the loves of his life, and he often expressed how grateful he was to have such an amazing loving family!

Donald had a presence whenever he entered a room. Anyone who knew him was bound to hear a Pavarotti line belted at full volume. In life, he was admired for his courage, compassion, and a vitality that brightened every space he entered. Early each morning, Donald could be spotted with a newspaper in hand sitting elbow to elbow with great friends at the Original Pancake House. He had a huge heart and started every week surrounded by loved ones at Sunday dinner hosted in his home.

He was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club for 35 years. Countless nights were spent dancing on the bricks while afternoons were spent winning Squash Championships. The two never seemed to interfere with one another somehow.

Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years Leona, the love of his life, and their children:

Christine, Anthony (Molly), Celeste (Mark), and his well-loved grandsons Andrew, Brooks, Cooper, Donald Jr.

Don was predeceased by his parents and his brothers: Roy Eugenio and Roland Eugenio.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
