Donald Joseph Gedling, Sr. age 84 of Hardinsburg, KY passed away December 4, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Owensboro, KY on December 9, 1939, son of the late Carl Oscar and Margaret Flood Gedling. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and a veteran of the United States Army. Donnie was a retired Kentucky Legislator, a job that allowed him to meet new friends, keep old friends and help those in need. He was a former employee of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services where he was a social worker and Breckinridge County Clerk. He was a lifelong farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Danny Gedling.
Donnie is survived by his wife Marilyn Gedling of Hardinsburg, KY
Son and daughter-in-law: Joey and Holly Gedling of Hardinsburg, KY
6 grandchildren: Adrienne Carter (Lester), Leslie Gedling, C J Gedling, Haley Jo Gedling, Madison Gedling and Joseph Gedling
6 great grandchildren: Wade Carter, Noah Burnett, Gabby Burnett, Claire Burnett, Conner Gedling and Jackson Gedling
1 sister: Carlene Barnard of Hardinsburg, KY
Several nieces, nephews and cousins
Funeral services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cloverport, KY on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11 AM with Rev. Fr. Michael Charles presiding. Burial with military honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, 3 – 7 PM and Tuesday, 9 – 11 AM. The rosary will be recited on Monday at 2:30 PM. All times are central.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Brescia University.
