Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 11:00 am to 3pm.
A service will be held at 2:30 pm.
A procession forms at the conclusion of the service and proceed to The Wiltwyck Mausoleum complex for Military Honors.
Donald F. Genther, 90, of East Chester Street died at his home on Saturday December 21st in the care of Hospice with his family by his side.
Donald was born in Kingston on November 1, 1934 a son of the late Frederick A. and Rose Marie (Tierney) Genther.
A decorated veteran of the United States Navy, Don served from 1952 to 1960. He is the recipient of The Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, China Service Medal, European Occupational Medal, and The National Defense Service Medal. Donald was also awarded Ulster County Veteran of the Year in 2016. Employed at The United States Postal Service for thirty-three years serving as Post Master in Bearsville and Ulster Park New York, retiring in 1989.
Active in Veterans affairs, Don was a lifetime member of Joyce Schirick VFW Post 1386. He was a member of the VFW's Color Guard and Post Commander from 1968 to 1969. A fifty year member of American Legion Post 150 and a member of Ulster County chapter 156 DAV. Donald also kept busy as a founding Director of Kingston Point BMX as well as the former President of Kingston Point BMX Parents Associtation. Don and his late wife Barbara owned and operated The Broadway Bike Shop for fifteen Years.
He is survived by His Children; Donald F. "Fritz" Genther (Carmela),Mindy Miraldi, Cindy Williams (Wayne),Tina Harder, Richard Wagner Jr., Joseph Carney (Wanda), and Steven Genther.
Sisters, Margaret Smith (Ron), RoseMary Fischer (Joe), Darlene Breitenstein (Don). Grandchildren; Fritz Genther, Nico Genther, Gabriella Genther, Jeffrey Miraldi (Diana), Jessica Miraldi, Cortney Wagner, Dakoda Wagner (Erica), Michael Williams (Kirsten),Michelle Williams, Mariah Williams (Randy),Matthew Harder (Heather), Lindsay Harder (Justin), Danielle McEvoy (George),Savana Carney, Hunter Wood, Leroy Staccio, Melissa Mentessi and Alissa Landra (Alex) as well as fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Genther, daughter Coleen Staccio, son in law Douglas Miraldi, and sisters Marilyn Quirk and Jackie Warden.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jessica Miraldi (granddaughter), Debbie Fisher (close family friend), and Hudson Valley Hospice for filling his final days with love and comfort.
