Mr. Donald Lee Gilbert of Stinnett, KY was born November 11, 1964 in Hyden, KY to the union of the late Haywood and Jacqueline Smith Gilbert. Donald attended the Union College where he graduated with a bachelors degree. He went on to teach at Stinnett Elementary for 2 years, and later in the Lab at the Mary Breckinridge Hospital where he worked for 2 years.
Donald had an extensive career in retail, and lastly for Walmart, where he retired after 37 years of service to the company. Donald's career was always at the forefront of his life, dedicating most of his time to working. Donald was a talented musician, and played piano for the Light House Quartet.
Aside from his work, Donald was a seasoned cook and baker, known for his delicious yeast rolls. He also enjoyed shopping, and never turned down a trip to Good Will.
He passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY at the age of 60.
Donald leaves behind two brothers Roger Gilbert of Stinnett, KY and John Gilbert (Carolyn) of Stinnett, KY; two sisters Oma Carol Huff (Leslie) of Hyden, KY, and Chris Smith (Chalous) of Nancy, KY. A multitude of cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister Lola Faye Johnson, sister-in-law Karen Gilbert, niece Kendra Hall and a great nephew Ryan Kyle Nantz.
There will be a private graveside at the Gilbert & Hall Cemetery at Stinnett, KY with Greg Gilbert officiating.
