Donald V. Goens, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 31 after a brief illness. Born to Donald V. Goens, Sr. and Geneva Edwards Goens on April 11, 1938 in Fort Smith, AR. He was the oldest of three sons, including Paul Goens and Bill Goens.
In August 1957, Don married the love of his life, Nanetta (Nan) Russell. They had three daughters, Donetta Fondren (Ronnie), Paula Caruthers (Scott) and Kari Arneson (Scott). He was the proud Papa to four grandchildren, Chasity Thomas (Justim), Ashley Jones (Jon), Mallory Mullins (Justin) and Makinly Arneson (Alexandra). He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, the seventh one coming in July, and three great-great grandchildren.
Don spent 59 years in the grocery business where he met and made many life-long friends, but he most enjoyed his time spent on Greers Ferry Lake. Don, Nan and their ever-growing family and friends spent countless hours on the water and hanging around the smoker and bbq grill. He enjoyed the solitude and rewards of working in his yard, both at the lakehouse and the Little Rock home. In retirement, he spent time navigating the intricacies of the stock market.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Hwy 5 in Alexander, AR. Memorials can be made to Hebron Baptist Church, Building Fund, 18715 Kanis Rd.,Little Rock, AR 72223.
