Donald Allen Haenel, age 72, of Fairview, passed away June 9, 2025, at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness.
He was born in Union City, PA on July 10, 1952, a son of the late Alfred and Barbara Howland Haenel.
Don was a 1970 graduate of Union City High School and received his welding degree from Erie County Technical School. He went on to be a welder/fabricator for over 50 years.
He worked for Pyramid Derrick Manufacturing in Houston, TX building oil rigs and several other companies with the last 25 years working at BC Fabricators in Lake City.
He loved fly fishing, traveling, NASCAR, and most of all spending time with his family. Time at camp, in Titusville, holds a special place in his heart. He was a diehard Denver Broncos fan and only would buy Jeep vehicles.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers; Michael and Gary Haenel; a stepbrother, Carl Weingard; stepfather’s; Kenneth Weingard and Samual Dove.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Debra Ripple Haenel; two daughters: Dawn Teresi and her husband Brian of Erie; Danyle Cornell and her husband Shawn of Fairview; Grand-daughters Lauren Teresi (fiancé John Lorei), Jocelyn Teresi, Morgan Felmlee (fiancé Nathaniel Gay); a sister Gretchen Spurk (Edward) of Columbus, PA; a step brother; Rusty Weingard (Kelly); a step sister Lois Fox; brother in law Ronald Ripple and his wife Ellen Young; sister in law Kelly Mazanowski; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. Girard on Friday from 3pm until the time of service at 6pm.
There will be a gathering at Lake Erie Lodge 347 at 8 Penn Ave Girard, PA following service.
