After high school, Donald attended Southeastern Oklahoma State College in Durant, Oklahoma. It was in college that Donald met the "love of his life" and future wife-Judith Lynn Gondles. They married on January 21, 1961 and moved to Dallas, Texas where their two children were born – Janna Lynn Jones and Jeffrey Don Harrison.

In 1972, Donald took a position at Motorola Inc. working in the Purchasing department for the Government Electronics Group. He eventually promoted to the Government Contracts division at Motorola. He retired from Motorola after 25 years of dedicated service and was an active member of the Motorola Retirees Club until 2020.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Lillian Harrison and his wife of 61 years, Judith Lynn Harrison. Donald's greatest love and joy came from spending time with his family especially his grandchildren & great grandchildren.
