Donald Howell Howard, born on July 13, 1939, in Folston, GA, departed this life on November 1, 2025, in Loganville, GA. He was a beloved member of his community, a devoted family man, and a dedicated professional.
Donald had a distinguished career in education, retiring at the age of 49 from Dekalb County Schools, where he served as an administrator. His commitment to fostering academic growth and inspiring young minds left a lasting impact on many students and educators alike.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Donald proudly served his country in the US Navy for four years. His military service reflected his strong values and dedication to supporting others.
He further engaged with his community as a Deacon at First Baptist Church Commerce, demonstrating his deep faith and connection to his church family. His devotion to his beliefs and the people around him was evident in all aspects of his life.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Howard, and children: Edwin (Adrianna) Howard, Gencie Howard, Teresa Taylor, and Sylvia Bertec. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Evan, Austin, Kendal, Kylie, Tiffany, David, and Brittany, who cherish the memories they created with him, and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ally.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Howell Howard, his mother, Frona Hodges Howard, his sister, Gail Howard, and his brother, Copeland Howard.
Visitation for Donald will be held at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce, GA, on November 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on November 6, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM, also at Ivie Funeral Home. The interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, GA, at 1:00 PM.
Donald Howell Howard's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith that will be cherished by his family and friends for years to come.
