Donald Keith Hynds, 82, passed away peacefully at Serenity Care Home in Katy with family by his side. Don was born in Dallas, TX on November 6, 1942 to Edwin Ray Hynds and Ila Fern Martin Hynds. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1961. Don earned his Bachelor's Degree at East Texas State University and completed his Master's Degree at Prairieview A&M University. He committed his career to education beginning as a teacher and coach and retiring in 1999 as Executive Director of Maintenance and Operations in Alief ISD. He was an avid sportsman who raised hunting dogs and loved offshore fishing, deer hunting and bird hunting. Early in his life, Don ran a charter service in the Gulf and later ran a cattle operation on the Katy prairie. Don loved everything outdoors and enjoyed years of traveling and camping with Gail throughout Texas, North America and Canada. He was Wagon Master for the Shiftless Sam's Camping Club for many years. He also loved motorcycles and spent time traveling the roads around Texas.

Don is survived by his wife, Gail Hynds, his daughter and son, Jana Hynds Syring (Paul) and Jamey Hynds (Heather), step-daughters Shelley Carr, G.G. Woods (Eric) and Katy Michalke. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chase Syring (Stephanie), Patrick Syring (Katie), Taylor Hynds, Hunter Hynds, Hannah Hynds and step-grandchildren Sarah Tyler (Colton), Christina Carr Mora (Armando), Ashley Carr, Alyssa Marino, Isabella Marino, Hope Michalke and Paige Michalke. Great-grandchildren are Braislyn Syring, Brody Syring, Colby Syring, Emma Syring and Colton Syring and step-great-grandchildren are Kinley Tyler, Bowen Tyler, and Hudson Tyler. Don is predeceased in death by his parents, Edwin Ray Hynds and Ila Fern Hynds and his sister, Sharon Roberts.

All are welcome to celebrate the life of Don Hynds at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1344 W. Grand Parkway South, Katy, TX 77494 on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, 936 FM 3426, La Grange, TX 78945 at 2:00 pm.

Pallbearers are Chase Syring, Patrick Syring, Hunter Hynds, and Dale Pieper.

A special thank you to Janis Young and the ladies at Serenity Care Home who took loving care of Don for the last year. Memorial donations in memory of Don may be made to Serenity Care Home, 823 Hidden Canyon, Katy TX 77450.
