Donald Kobash Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home - Hillsdale on Feb. 27, 2026.
Donald Joseph Kobash, age 86, of Hillsdale, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Drews Village Green Assisted Living in Hillsdale. He was born on February 24, 1940, in Detroit, to Joseph and Theresa (Haramia) Kobash. Don married Barbara McMahon on July 11, 1964, and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2013.

Don graduated from Cody High School in Detroit in 1958. He continued his studies to become a journeyman tool and die maker, working at several factories while living in Livonia. After moving to Hillsdale, Don and Barbara became the owners of the Oak Haven Party Store in Hillsdale. He also worked at Alsons Corporation and later for the Department of Corrections in Jackson teaching industrial courses. In 1988, Don and Barb began developing 6 Lakes Campground in Hillsdale and together they owned and operated the business until 2007. Don enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and tinkering with projects at home and at the campground. He also was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly (Kevin) Sobieski of Hillsdale; and two grandchildren, Isaac Sobieski, and Alison Sobieski, both of Hillsdale.

Donald will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Jefferson Township in a private family graveside service. A celebration of his life will take place in the summer of 2026 at the 6 Lakes Campground in Hillsdale. Arrangements have been entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
