Donald E. Kortan, 88, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lingering illness. He was born in Maple Heights, Ohio on October 8, 1936, to Joseph F. and Minnie F. (Schultz) Kortan. He had worked as an electrician for the Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Ohio for more than 20 years until his retirement.
Donald served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was an active member of the American Legion Post #555, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio, where he served as the post commander for several years. He enjoyed life to the fullest, fishing on Lake Erie and as an avid NASCAR fan. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who loved his family above all else.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Shirley (Vargo) Kortan, daughter, Terri (Dennis) Reitz, stepdaughter, Karen (Alex) Kolosiwsky, grandchildren, Nolan Reitz, Brandon & Ashley Kolosiwsky, and great grandchildren, Ryder, Zoey, and Braydon. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard & Kenneth Kortan.
There are no services scheduled at this time. The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Port Clinton, Ohio is assisting with arrangements.
