Donald Lanier
Wednesday, June 3, 1936 – Wednesday, March 5, 2025
Donald Lanier, 88, of Clarkesville, a cherished family man and respected veteran, passed away on March 5, 2025, at Mountain View Health Care in Clayton, Georgia. He was born on June 3, 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Meguiar officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S Army, where he not only protected the nation but also pursued his love for baseball. He continued to enjoy softball well into his 70s. His adventurous spirit was evident in his service as a paratrooper, a role that showcased his bravery for his country. After his military service, Donald embarked on a career in commercial sign sales with Colite Industries.
A man of many interests, Donald's creative side shone through in his love for drawing. He was also an avid WWII history enthusiast, a subject that captivated him and often served as the topic of many fascinating conversations.
Donald's passing was preceded by his parents, Robert and Lottie Campbell Lanier, his brother, Robert (Bobby) Lanier and daughter-in-law, LeeAnn Lanier.
Donald's heart belonged to his family. He was the beloved husband of Lucy McDonald Lanier of Clarkesville. Together, they raised two daughters, Mary Jackson (Stan) of Clarkesville, Joan Heath (Jim) of Forsyth and one son, John Lanier (the late LeeAnn Lanier) of Griffin. Donald's legacy will be carried on by his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished deeply. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
