Obituary of Donald Thomas Loos
Donald T. Loos, 65, of Niles, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.
He was born on November 1, 1956 in Kankakee, Illinois to the late Robert E. and Margaret "Peg" A. (Myers) Loos.
Donald graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson, Michigan. On March 22, 1980 Don married Denise Bridges at a ceremony in Jackson, Michigan; although the marriage ended, the couple welcomed three children into their lives, Jackie, Heather and Matthew. Don retired from medical sales and not being one to sit idle went on to work for several other places.
He was a member of Summit Church in Niles, where he found a wonderful community of faith. Don was a hockey enthusiast and enjoyed every opportunity he had to cheer on the Detroit Red Wings, he was able to attend their training camp just this year. He also looked forward to time on the golf course or watching a few rounds on TV. Don was fond of the great outdoors and relished the opportunity this year to take his camper to Pictured Rocks. Don had a big heart for rescue dogs, often saying the dogs rescued him, especially his most recent dog, Marley. Don was a hands-on father always coaching his children's teams, regardless of the sport. Many others have remarked about the impact Don had on their lives. Don was always sociable and seemed to never meet a stranger. Regardless of his health situation, his family was amazed at his strength and ability to always be positive, which he attributed to his faith in God. Don always said his children were his proudest accomplishment.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Loos in 2011 and Margaret "Peg" Loos in 2016. He is also preceded by a brother, Stephen Loos in 1979 and a sister, Mary Purvis in 2011. He rejoins his faithful companion, a boxer, Burt.
He is survived by his children, Jackie (Kirk) Mills of Portage, Michigan, Heather Loos (Michael Veach) of Niles and Matthew Loos of Portage, Michigan; siblings, Michael (Joann) Loos of Laingsburg, Michigan, Kathy (Keith) Schmidt of Tecumseh, Michigan, Thomas (Deb) Loos of Alpena, Michigan, Patrick (Kay) Loos of Simpsonville, South Carolina, John (Laura) Loos of Spring Arbor, Michigan, and a brother-in-law, Bobby Purvis of Hiawassee, Georgia. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
