Donald Elden "Don" Lucas

Longtime Siskiyou County resident Donald Elden "Don" Lucas passed away on October 30, 2025 after an extensive health battle. He was 63 years old.
Don was born in Redding. His parents were Elmer "Chic" and Ruby (Kreder) Lucas. Don lived in Siskiyou County for his whole life except for one year spent in Central Point, Oregon. Don lived in Seiad Valley until 1971, when he moved to Yreka. He spent his career as an equipment operator, first for E.E. Lucas Logging (his father's company), and he spent time working for several mills, as well as the California Department of Fish and Game. Don loved the woods, and was an avid hunter of big game and waterfowl. He enjoyed World War II history, and studying blacksmithing and knifemaking.
Don spent many years as a volunteer fire fighter for South Yreka Fire Department and Mayten Fire Department. The Fire Hall was his second home, and he loved the camaraderie and purpose that he found helping those in need.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Jimmie Lucas.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Tara (Hendrickson) Lucas; his children, Amanda and Brett; grandchildren, Aidan and Ryan; great-grandchild, Zophia; and by a sister, Janis (Sloan) Taylor.
