Donald Ray Lucido

Donald Ray Lucido was born in Antioch, California, on January 16, 1938. His parents were Dominick and Doris (Van Brocklin) Lucido. At the age of 9, he started building ham radios for his Dad and at the age of 12, his Dad took him to the FCC in San Francisco to take the Amateur Radio exam, becoming one of the youngest ham radio operators in the area. His call sign was W6BXE. That was the beginning of his technical career, and he took off from there! Don graduated from Alhambra High School in 1955 and excelled in the technical and college courses he took over the years. He worked for Siemens Medical Systems for 32 years in various technical positions and became Director of the Technical Department. In 1980, he was awarded a patent for the development of an Electron Applicator for a Linear Accelerator. He had two sons, Scott and Jeff. Jeff preceded him in death in 1992. Scott and Betsy had four children, Clara, Robin, Dominic, and Susanna. Robin (and Jason) and Susanna (and Max) have two daughters each. In 1982, Don married Freda and Brad became his step-son. Brad and Carey have three daughters, Kaylin, Jenna, and Natalie. Don and Freda shared a love for boating and joined Sportsmen Yacht Club in 1989. Don served as Treasurer in the early 1990s where he wrote the financial software the club used for many years. In 1999, Don created the website for the club and he remained the Webmaster up until the time of his death. Over the past 25 years, Dons relationship with Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior grew more and more. Over the past four years, he became known as the "Cross-maker," having made over a thousand wooden crosses which have been sent all over the world. This became his mission and his passion and while he was recovering from his hospitalizations, he just wanted to get home so he could make more crosses.
