Donald K. Lytle Jr., age 90 of Shabbona, IL passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Prairie Crossing Assisted Living in Shabbona, IL, surrounded by family. He was born on September 16, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Donald Kenneth and Elizabeth M. (Peter) Lytle Sr.
Don was united in marriage on March 17, 1989 to Inez Slinkard. Mr. Lytle was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Lee, IL. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Inez Lytle of DeKalb, IL; his children, Deborah (Randal) Thorson of Clayton, NC, Terri (Greg) Tiffany of Perry, IA, Bruce (Christa) Lytle of Dixon, IL, and Lisa Johnson of Rochelle, IL; his 12 grandchildren, Lucas, Derek, Brooke, Bryce, Michael, Hannah, Jacob, McAley, Shannon, Morgan, Tate, and Libby; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Lytle of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Janet Combs of Paw Paw, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth Lytle Sr. and his son, Jeffrey Lytle.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. James Catholic Church, 221 West Kirke Gate, Lee, IL. Interment will follow in the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Lee, IL. A light lunch will be hosted by the St. James Alter & Rosary Society following interment.
Friends may visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 West Garfield Street, Waterman, IL.
