Donald Lee Mann, (Don), passed away peacefully in his home at Independence Village in White Lake, Michigan on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023. He was born on October 3, 1940, in Manistee, Michigan and was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Delores Helen Mann (Kasten), his parents, Waldemar (Walter) Edwin and Lucile Marie Mann (Staffield), his brothers, Bruce Robert Mann (Judy) and Walter Levi Mann, as well as his sister, Barbara Lucile Mann. He is survived by his children, Kelly Bambard (Eric) and their children, Kala Barrios (Francisco) and Kyle Bambard; Mark Mann; Melinda LaRosa (Anthony) and their children, Colton, Abigail and Logan LaBrosse; and Erika Pease (Justin) and their two children, Keira and Kennedy; as well as his brother, Alan Louis Mann and many loving, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Don and Dee were wed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pontiac, Michigan on June 30, 1962, and felt very grateful to have had 59 years together.
Don was a graduate of Pontiac Central High School, in Pontiac, Michigan, where he was the President of his graduating class, as well as the school Mascot. He grew up in Pontiac, Michigan. After marrying Dee, they settled in Walled Lake, Michigan, where they resided and raised their family until moving into Independence Village a little more than 3 years ago. In his career, he spent time at Williams International Research Company, but ultimately settled at Oakland Community College where he was a Professor of Computer Science. Don was extremely active in their church, Shepherd of the Lakes, of Commerce, Michigan. He, along with his wife, became members in November of 1969. He served the church on many committees, as well as their Board for many years. He was also a longtime member of the church choir.
Don and Dee spent many summers traveling throughout the United States enjoying the National and State Parks and sites that the United States has to offer. They camped, biked, hiked and explored countless states during their early years of retirement. Don enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and felt extremely lucky to have known his grandchildren so well. He was also grateful to have had the opportunity to meet his great grandson, Brody Barrios, who resides in Glendale, AZ and to spend time with him last Spring. Don also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Manistee, Michigan and created many memories with his children and grandchildren as well as extended family and friends while vacationing there.
Don's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Corso Care and the staff at Independence Village for the care and kindness they had for Don and Dee and more recently for Don, especially in his last days.
The family will receive friends and family at Shepherd of the Lakes Church, 2905 S. Commerce Rd., Commerce, Michigan on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 10:30am for Visitation, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am and a luncheon immediately following.
If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Shepherd of the Lakes Church. Checks can be made payable to Shepherd of the Lakes Church.
