Donald Aaron McKinney, 67, of Marion, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024, at his residence.
Donald was born in Mitchell County, NC on September 10, 1956, to the late Lee McKinney and Maxine Lowery McKinney. He was married to his wife of twenty-six years, Wanda Jane Rumfelt McKinney. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing. Donald loved football and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed drag racing and was also a fan of NASCAR. He was an excellent mechanic who was known to be able to fix most anything. Donald will always be loved and remembered by his friends and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted McKinney and Randall McKinney; and a sister, Juanita.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda McKinney; four children, Aaron Fox, Scott Wilson (Amanda), Joshua McKinney, and Brandy McKinney; three grandsons, Titus Wilson, Brayden Pinkerton, and Cayden McKinney; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Bobby Dobson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s honor to UNC Health Blue Ridge Cancer Center in Valdese, 720 Malcolm Blvd Suite 200, Rutherford College, NC 28671.
