Donald Mendel Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brater-Winter Funeral Home (Harrison) on Nov. 5, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Mendel on May 14, 2025. Donald was born June 5, 1936 to parents Charles and Hettie (nee Holdcraft) Mendel in Sayler Park, Ohio.
Donald began his journey in the workforce at Kroger, following in his father's footsteps during high school. After some time at Kroger, Donald eventually served in the Army, before returning back to work at Kroger. His time at Kroger not only solidified his work ethic but also led him to meet the love of his life, Shirley, -when she boldly asked him out, sparking a beautiful romance.
An avid car enthusiast, Donald took immense pride in his meticulously cared-for 1995 Mustang, which was a true reflection of his passion. He loved attending car shows, where he found joy in sharing stories and connecting with fellow enthusiasts. Donald also enjoyed precious moments during his travels, always taking pictures where ever he went, creating memories that his loved ones will cherish forever.
Donald had a wonderful sense of humor, often lightening the mood with his playful assertion that he invented the jump shot during his days in high school. His laughter and joy were infectious, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to be part of his life.
Those left to remember Donald's memory are his children: Doug Mendel, Greg Mendel, Teresa Hopkins, Diana (Don) Barnett, and Lori (Deron) Beebe; his grandchildren: Rachel (Richard) Martin, Amy Hopkins, Tyler Mendel, Nathan (Kayla) Leonard, Paige Mendel, Bailey Beebe, Brooke (Nick) Terrell), Brandon Beebe, Josh Barnett, Alyssa Beebe; his great grandchildren: Paisley and Laci Leonard, Brayden Hook, Emma Martin, and Kaylen (Corey) May; his great great grandchildren: Remi May and Banks May; his brother: Charlie (Jackie) Mendel; and his in-laws: Roger (Jane) Knowlton, Marjorie (the late Eddie) Demaree, Russel (the late Janet) Knowlton, Kenneth (the late Terri) Knowlton, and Kathleen (the late George) Morgan.
