Sandra was born the third child of the late Francis and Shirley Vanderhoof in Dover, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Netcong, NJ. Sandra married the love of her life in 1973 and the pair went on to have a wonderful family, making many memories along the way. Once the boys were in school, Sandra started her career as a Crossing Guard in Netcong Borough where she worked for over 30 years.
Sandra was always known for her friendly personality. She knew everyone in town and would always greet them warmly. In recent years, she loved taking trips to the casino and most of all spending time with her grandson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Ace and Shirley Aelane Vanderhoof and one brother, Frank Vanderhoof.
She is survived by her spouse of 52 years, Thomas Joseph Mendel Sr.; three sons, Thomas Mendel Jr. (Danielle), Scott Mendel (Jamie), and Mark Mendel (Katie), her grandson, Ace Mendel; one sister; seven brothers, and many nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at the Morgan Funeral Home, 31 Main Street, Netcong, NJ 07857. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery.
