Mr. Donald (Don) Richard Metcalf, 70, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Grennell) Metcalf of 48 years, three sons and daughters-in-law, and nine grandchildren.

Born November 20, 1954 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Richard and Virginia Metcalf. Don graduated from Governor Thomas Johnson High School in 1972, after which he served active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1975 where he was a machinist on the USS America. He attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in Michigan where he met his wife.

Don and Martha were married in Ithaca, New York on June 1, 1977. They returned to Maryland where Don served as a volunteer firefighter while working for the city of Frederick. Don then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years until his retirement. Don was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Leitersburg for over 30 years where he served as a deacon and treasurer.

In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his children: Andrew Richard Metcalf, wife Deborah, and grandchildren Nathanael, Nehemiah, Martha, Rachel, and Caleb; Joseph Lawrence Metcalf, wife Meghan, and grandchildren Gabriel, Eleanor, Daisy, and Leo; and Micah Paul Metcalf and wife Emily. Don is also survived by his brothers, William Kenneth Metcalf (Dawn) and Paul Moulton Metcalf (Kim), sister, Cathy Ann Knear (M. Paul), and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 1 pm at Oakwood Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 11 am at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don's name to Wayside Baptist Church, 21303 Leiter St, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
