Elizabeth Metcalf Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 18, 2025.
Elizabeth Marie Metcalf ObituaryElizabeth Marie Metcalf, beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother, and incredible friend and inspiration to many, entered Heaven with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 5, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and at the very end heard the words her husband received that morning from Jesus saying in Luke 23:43: "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise."
Born on October 26, 1949, in Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth was the daughter of Betty Lou Hagen and Charles James Lomonaco and grew up in Denver alongside her beloved mother and four sisters, Marianne, Nancy, Diane and Debbie, who would often call her Bepar. Their home, later known as the "Bummy House" across from Washington Park, was the setting for many cherished memories for her, even in the midst of painful moments and difficulties in the family. The tragic death of her sister, Nancy, at the age of 16, marked the journey to her putting her faith and trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at the age of 20. Her relationship with Jesus Christ and strong faith in God was unwavering and brought great purpose, joy and strength to her life.
From a very young age Elizabeth was drawn to beauty and artistic creativity. She often recounted the story of her choosing her Native American name in a children's summer camp "Choutawaka" meaning "Creator of Many Beautiful Things." She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wyoming and began to pursue her passion for calligraphy. In addition to building up her calligraphy business back in Denver, Elizabeth found great joy in volunteering and serving at her local church, particularly in the youth ministries. She had a heart for mentoring and discipling young people that remained for the rest of her life. At the age of 27, she met and fell in love with her adored husband, Tony, and they were married on December 30, 1976, in Denver, Colorado. Throughout their years together, their family grew, and they would have two beautiful daughters, Rachael (1980) and Elizabeth (1983).
Elizabeth loved being a homemaker and dedicated wife to her husband and mother to her girls. She was always cooking, baking and creating beautiful experiences and celebrations in the home for her family. She and Tony served together in ministry for the Navigators from 1980-1985 in Grand Junction, Colorado, and eventually moved to Colorado Springs and purchased Colorado Springs Wholesale Florist. They made a great team and ran the business together for 38 years, and Elizabeth found great joy in supporting the creative side of the floral industry. For over 50 years, she used her remarkable talent for calligraphy to bring beauty and blessings not only to her family but to countless individuals. Her love for artistry extended beyond her work-it was a ministry that touched many lives. Elizabeth loved opening their historic home in the Old North End of Colorado Springs to family, friends, and guests for her calligraphy sales and art history teas. Following in the legacy of her mother, she always felt their home should be used as a sanctuary – a place of welcome, peace and above all, love. Her generosity towards others was a hallmark of her life. Elizabeth, also known by many as Becky, will always be remembered for the beautiful and heartfelt notes that she wrote to family and friends.
Becky loved to travel and discover new places of beauty, art and history – in Europe, particularly England and Italy, where her youngest daughter Elizabeth lives with her husband, Andrea and their daughter, Eden. One of her favorite memories in Italy was when she and Tony went to Lake Como with Elizabeth and her family. Her love for nature and the mountains sparked her love and interest in landscape artists such as Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt, whom were two of the artists that were featured in her many art history teas. She loved taking many family road trips to the mountains – especially to Crested Butte and would often say that she was so grateful to be able to live in Colorado Springs and see the beauty of Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods every day. Becky's oldest daughter, Rachael, also lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, Jonah, and their three children Alix, Summer and Arabella and they enjoyed many family meals and special times together. Her daughter, Elizabeth and family would visit from Italy once or twice a year and she cherished the times of having the whole family with her. Becky enjoyed laughing with her family and would often say that she "loved being together". She always looked forward to weekly movie dates with Tony, sitting outside by the pool at Garden of the Gods club with her family in the summer, talking with her daughters that she sweetly called "doll" on the phone daily, and opportunities to love and be generous to her grandchildren. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she always made them feel special and encouraged them in their gifts and talents. Becky loved her husband, Tony's family in Maine and the visits to Bayside throughout their entire marriage, and where they had many memorable family vacations. Elizabeth also had a heart for the most vulnerable, choosing to dedicate her time and serve on the committee of Newborn Hope for several years (support to families impacted by prematurity). She was also a dedicated and active member of the Republican Party and would volunteer to walk her precinct leading up to elections. Elizabeth had many lasting friendships and continued to have a wonderful circle of friends up until her final days. Becky was known for her kindness, encouragement, compassion, generosity, love and faith in God - qualities that left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Elizabeth is survived by her devoted husband, Tony; her beloved daughters, Rachael Walters and Elizabeth Imperato; sons-in-law, Jonah Walters and Andrea Imperato; and five grandchildren who lovingly called her "Bama", and her sisters Marianne, Diane, and Debbie.
She is preceded in death by her incredible mother, who was known as "Momar", her dear sister Nancy, and her father.
While her passing brings deep sorrow to those who loved her, we take comfort in knowing she is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven for eternity. The date and time of her passing is especially significant in that it was the three-year anniversary of her mother's death and within minutes of the time.
One of her favorite verses was:
"And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands." (Psalms 90:17)
We will miss you dearly, precious Wife, Mom, Sister and Bama.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
Our family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
