Donald "Don" Karl Meyer, 96, of Morton, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Reflections Memory Care in Morton.
He was born on July 28, 1928 to the late Leo and Lucille (Reiser) Meyer in Quincy, IL. He married Marie M. Vogelsang on January 13, 1952 in East Peoria, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Laurie (Paul) Hartzell of Washington, IL, Gina Coombs of Greeley, CO, and Chris (Becky) Meyer of Morton, IL; his brother, Wendell Meyer of Cary, NC; nine grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vivian Tuley; and his son-in-law, Bill Coombs.
Don was a member of the Ninth Marine Corps Reserve, where he was called into active duty in Korea in 1950. During this time, he participated in the Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin Campaign and was honorably discharged in 1954, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Don completed the Machinist apprenticeship at Caterpillar, working for several years in tool making. After leaving Caterpillar, he worked at and later owned Cobb Industrial Grinding for 65 years and valued the many relationships he developed throughout his time in business.
Don's personal interests included bird watching, bicycling, travel, reading, photography, but he received the greatest enjoyment from the relationships he had with his family and friends. He was a devoted follower of Christ and his faith sustained him throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s, and Easter Seals
A visitation will be held for Don on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 am at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, IL. The service will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Jim Isbell officiating.
