Donald P. Mitchell Sr., 77, of Sandwich, IL passed away on March 9, 2024. Donald was born on July 6, 1946 in La Porte, Indiana to Albert and Clara (West) Mitchell. He married his wife, Sharon Olson, on January 10, 1979 and enjoyed many years together until her passing in 2014.
Donald was proud to have served as a US Marine in the Vietnam War and serve as a police officer in Plano, Hinckley and Winfield. In his retired years, he worked as a security officer at the Dial Soap factory and LTD Commodities.
He was an avid model railroader and enjoyed golfing and going to car shows.
Donald is survived by his children, Donald (Cary) Mitchel of Kiel, WI, Megan (Nicholas) Konczal of Sandwich, IL and Daniel Mitchell of Johnston, PA; Grandchildren, Cassandra, Christopher, Samantha, Caden, Madison, Mackenzie, Morgan and Daniel Jr. Mitchell, and Dakota and Meadow Mitchell and Autumn, Brooklynn, Will, Nathan, Hailey and Gavin Konczal; As well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; His wife, Sharon; Grandson, Conner Mitchell; As well as 2 brothers, Douglas Mitchell and David Mitchell.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry St. Sandwich, IL 60548. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.beveragefamilyfh.com
