Donald D. Montoya, age 73, a life long resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was born on February 26, 1952 to Filemon Montoya and Katarina Martinez Montoya.

He graduated from Robertson High School in 1970, and continued his education at New Mexico Highlands University and the University of Denver where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work.

Donald worked as a Clinical Social Worker at the NM Behavioral Health Institute for many years. After he earned his LISW (Licensed Independent Social Worker) certification he directed several programs at the Forensic Unit of NMBHI. He was a member of the NASW (National Association of Social Workers) and attended their conferences.

He was also a member of B.P.O.E. Las Vegas Lodge #408. He held various positions during his tenure with the Elks including NM Elks Veterans Activities Northeast District Chair, Exalted Ruler and Chairman of the Board of Directors. He received the NM Elks Association Elk of the Year Award in 2012 for his outstanding service to the organization.

After retirement Donald devoted much of his time to his passion for cars especially MOPARs. He collected and restored many vehicles including his award- winning Dodge Charger. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and going on bike runs with his friends. Donald loved and cared for his many pets throughout the years: Meoggie, Wolf, Taj, Chopper, Rocky, Shasta, and Lela, to name a few.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Filemon and Katarina Montoya, wife Martha Baca-Montoya, brothers: Albert A. Montoya, Fernando Montoya, sisters: Rosella Shepard, Roberta Weahkee, and nephew Sammy Montoya.

He is survived by his brother, Ron (Mary Grace), and sister-in-law Pita Montoya, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family has honored Donald's request for no public services. A private burial will take place at a later date.
