Donald J. Roberts, 97, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, formerly of rural Clayton, IL, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, at the home.

Born August 16, 1928, in Kellerville, IL, Donald was the son of Jesse and Iva Alcorn Roberts. He was united in marriage to Hilda Hess on June 14, 1953, at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Liberty, IL. She survives.

Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honored to take a trip to Washington, DC with the Great River Honor Flight, a trip he truly enjoyed.

He retired from farming and also from J.M. Huber Corporation in March 1989 after 17 years of employment.

Donald was a member of the Liberty Christian Church, the Liberty American Legion, the East Union Community Club, and the Adams County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed woodworking, caning chairs, hunting, fishing, and most recently, taking Kubota rides around the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda; seven children, James (Gretchen) Roberts of Liberty, MO, Jerry (Debra) Roberts, Samuel (Carolyn) Roberts, and Susan (Mike) Balzer, all of Liberty, IL, Jeffrey (Brenda) Roberts of Macon, MO, John (Beverly) Roberts of Camp Point, IL, and Jesse (Lori) Roberts of Clayton, IL; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and two on the way; 1 great great grandson; his sister, Marjorie Knight, Augusta, IL.; his brother, Earl Roberts, Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Iva; two sisters, Moneta DeWitt (Joe) and Peggy Hess (Orel), and his brother, Joe Roberts (Norma).

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, at the Liberty Christian Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Liberty.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Liberty Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant View Cemetery or the Great River Honor Flight.
