Donald Ronning, 94, of Ettrick, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, under the care of Gundersen Hospice.
Don was born January 29, 1931, in rural Taylor, to Oscar and Julia (Tollefson) Ronning. He was united in marriage to Virginia Johnson on June 27, 1959, at French Creek Lutheran Church, and together the couple raised Keith and Tricia. He was proud to be the oldest living member of the church.
Don was a dedicated and hard-worker all of his life. He started out working as a farm hand at various local farms and the Chevrolet Automotive shop in Melrose. Later, he worked for A-G Co-op, operating their portable feed mill and also the Ettrick Feed Mill. It is safe to say that Don was a champion corn shoveler. He was mechanically-minded and could fix anything and everything; and also enjoyed deer hunting each year.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia of Ettrick; children: Keith (Cristine) Ronning of Galesville and Tricia (Daryl Hjornevik) Ronning of Hixton; grandchildren: Kara (Erik) Pyka, Hunter (Jenna Johnson) and Hayden Hjornevik; great-grandchildren: Emree and Ender Pyka; sisters-in-law: Elsie Ronning and Janice Ronning; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Orvis, Curtis, Lloyd (Eunice) Ronning; sisters: Mildred (James) Schoolcraft and Judith (Orville) Smikrud; and many in-laws.
Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Don's life at a picnic on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Ettrick's Game Time Park beginning at 12 p.m. (Noon). Don will be laid to rest in French Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ettrick at a later date.
